This theoretical work on calligraphy was written by Wongyo Yi Gwangsa, a leading literary figure and calligrapher of late Joseon. The manuscript is an autograph edition preserved in its original pre-bound form, prior to the application of a traditional cover.
Following Joseon-era bookbinding practices, the sheets were neatly aligned and temporarily fastened with paper cords before formal five-hole binding (ochimanjeongbeop).
Although the renowned calligrapher Kim Jeonghui later criticized the work for certain technical shortcomings, Wongyo Seogyeol remains foundational in the theoretical development of Korean calligraphy. It is a significant document for understanding calligraphic education and theory in the late Joseon period.

비평가 김정희(金正喜)는 이 책에 대해 필법과 묵법의 미흡함을 지적했으나, 『원교서결』은 조선 서예사의 이론적 토대를 마련한 저술로 평가된다. 조선 후기 서예 교육과 이론의 흐름을 이해하는 데 중요한 자료이다.
